The Heart of Hartsoch Ranch

The Heart of Hartsoch Ranch

Dec 10, 2024

If you’ve ever driven past a herd of cattle grazing in the open fields of North Dakota, you’ve seen a glimpse of the life we cherish here at Hartsoch Ranch. But what makes our herd special? Let me introduce you to the hardworking heart of our ranch—our red and black Angus cattle.

Why Angus?

We chose red and black Angus cattle for their outstanding qualities. These breeds are known for their ability to thrive in North Dakota’s rugged climate, their gentle nature, and most importantly, their ability to produce high-quality, flavorful, and lean beef. Every steer and heifer in our herd represents the dedication we’ve put into creating beef that we’re proud to share with your family.

How We Care for Our Herd

At Hartsoch Ranch, our cattle are more than just livestock—they’re part of our way of life. We practice year-round mineral feeding to keep them healthy and strong, and we finish them with grain to enhance the flavor and marbling of the beef. Every step of the process is hormone-free and focused on the long-term health of the land and the animals.
We also incorporate regenerative farming practices to ensure our pastures remain lush and sustainable for years to come. This not only benefits our cattle but also contributes to a healthier environment.

A Personal Connection

Each member of our herd has a story. One of my favorite memories is of a calf born during a surprise spring snowstorm. We rushed out to the pasture with blankets and towels, ensuring the little one was warm and safe. Moments like these remind us why we love what we do—the hard work is always worth it.

What’s Next for “Meet Our Cattle”?

This series is just the beginning. In future posts, I’ll share more about individual cattle, our breeding practices, and what it takes to raise top-quality beef. If there’s something you’ve always wondered about ranching, drop me a comment or send a message—I’d love to hear from you!

Thank you for taking the time to meet our herd. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes looks at the cattle that make Hartsoch Ranch the special place it is.

Until next time,
